FAQ
What is the “Killer Dowel Pin” (KDP) problem?A small alignment pin behind the timing cover can vibrate out and drop into the timing gears, causing severe engine damage. This kit prevents that by mechanically retaining the pin.
Is this kit different from the standard KDP kit?Yes. The Premium kit adds a new front cover gasket and front crankshaft seal so you can reseal the front of the engine during the repair.
Does it fit both 12-valve and 24-valve 5.9 Cummins?Yes—this kit is designed for 1994–2002 model years, covering 12V (’94–’98) and 24V (’98.5–’02) engines.
Any tips for installation?Disconnect batteries, remove the balancer and timing cover, install the retainer tab over the dowel pin, then reseal with the included gasket and seal. Use threadlocker on fasteners and torque to spec.
What are good companion parts?New timing cover bolts, fresh RTV, and a balancer puller. See our internal links above for easy sourcing.
