Manual Transmission FAQ

Which manual came in my Dodge Ram?

1994–2003 trucks commonly use NV4500, 1999–2005 use NV5600, and 2005–2018 use the G56. Always confirm by VIN, build tag, or existing part numbers.

When should I choose the Extreme-ER G56?

If you tow heavy or run elevated power/heat, the HD main case helps curb case flex and crack risk while retaining the Extreme Duty internal upgrades.

Do I need a 1-3/8" input?

On NV4500 builds, a 1-3/8" input pairs with heavy-duty clutches and higher torque. It’s optional but recommended for tuned/towing setups. Shop clutches above to match.

What fluid do these transmissions use?

Use the fluid spec on your CPP build sheet (NV-specific manual trans fluids). Most units are ~1 gallon capacity. Contact us if you need a brand cross.
