Helpful Notes
- Machine work: Verify deck surface finish and flatness. Fire-ringed head requires a compatible gasket/fire-ring solution.
- Clamping: We strongly recommend ARP 625+ head studs for high boost and competition use.
- Tuning: Valve spring rate and installed height should match your cam profile and intended RPM range.
FAQ
Is this head ready to bolt on?It arrives assembled with valves, springs, guides, and seats installed. Always mock-up, check piston-to-valve, and verify spring pressures before final assembly. Pair with the correct head set and studs for best results.
Do I need fire-rings on the block too?Yes—use a matched fire-ring solution (head & block/gasket) when running elevated boost/cylinder pressure. Consult your machine shop and gasket supplier for the correct ring size and receiver grooves.
What size valves and springs are used? This performance head uses oversized stainless valves (approx. 36 mm) and ~95 lb performance springs to improve control at higher RPM and boost.
Which head studs should I choose? For tuned street/strip builds, ARP 247-4204 (625 Series) provides excellent clamping. Stock bolts are not recommended for high-boost applications.
