Product Description
BorgWarner 179478 S500SX-E Exhaust Housing — 110mm, 1.15 A/R, T6
BORGWARNER 179478 delivers premium exhaust flow with its twin-flow S500SX-E design. With a 110mm turbine wheel, 1.15 A/R ratio, and a T6 inlet twin divided flow (volute) configuration, this exhaust housing is built for high horsepower capability in demanding applications.
Key Specifications
- Exhaust Housing Type: T6 twin flow divided volute (twin-scroll style) turbine inlet
- A/R Ratio: 1.15
- Turbine Wheel Size: 110mm OD
- Inlet Centerline (A): 3.62” (≈92 mm)
Designed for S500SX / S500SX-E frame turbos. Requires matching turbine manifold, and appropriate exhaust & downpipe routing. Not bolt-and-go on stock manifolds without modification.

Popular Fitment / Build Considerations
Supercore / Single Turbo Builds: When using the S500SX-E or pairing with this housing, expect strong top-end, but needs proper fueling, exhaust, manifolds, wastegate sizing, etc. for full potential.
Compound Turbo Systems: Use this housing paired with a proper high-pressure unit (S300 or S400) for compound setups where this can act primarily in the lower exhaust pressure side or in atmospheric role.

FAQ
Will the 179478 bolt onto stock exhaust manifolds?
No. The T6 inlet and twin-flow divided volute require a matched manifold or adapter. Stock manifolds will generally not have the correct flange or flow path.
How does the 1.15 A/R housing affect spool and top end vs smaller A/Rs?
This 1.15 A/R will tend to deliver better mid-to-top end flow compared to smaller A/R (0.85, 1.00, etc.), but will spool slower. It’s most useful where exhaust energy is high (large displacement, high fuel, compound setups).
Is the “Twin Flow / Divided Volute” design worth it?
Yes — divided/twin flow helps improve exhaust pulse separation and scavenging, which reduces backpressure and improves overall efficiency when properly tuned.
Does this housing fit both S500SX and S500SX-E frames?
Yes — the turbine housing is common across S500SX and S500SX-E for many applications. The difference is largely in the compressor wheel (cast vs billet, blade count), not the turbine housing geometry.
What other parts will I need when upgrading?
You’ll need a matching exhaust manifold, downpipe, a proper wastegate, and possibly fuel system upgrades depending on HP goals. Also ensure proper oil feed & drain setup.
