Product Description
BorgWarner 177248 S400SX3 Turbocharger — S471/83, 1.10 A/R, T4 Divided
BORGWARNER 177248 pairs a 71mm extended-tip S471 compressor with an 83mm turbine and a 1.10 A/R T4 twin-scroll housing. Built on the proven AirWerks S400SX3 architecture with durable journal bearings, it’s a go-to for high-power single setups and the low-pressure (atmospheric) role in S300/S400 compounds.
Key Specifications
- Compressor (S471): ~71.1 mm inducer, ~100 mm exducer, extended-tip design; 5.0" hose inlet; 4.21" V-band outlet
- Turbine: 83 mm wheel; 1.10 A/R T4 divided housing; ~4" “half-Marmon” style outlet
- Center section: twin hydrodynamic journal bearings; adjustable compressor & turbine housing orientation
Best for high-hp builds. Verify manifold flange (T4 divided), downpipe outlet, oil feed/return, and charge piping prior to purchase.
What’s Included
- BorgWarner 177248 S400SX3 turbocharger (S471/83, 1.10 A/R T4 divided)
Recommended Add-Ons
- CPP -12AN Oil Drain Kit (S300/S400)

Popular Build Paths
Single T4 Divided: Requires a T4 twin-scroll manifold and matching downpipe. Quicker spool than comparable T6 housings; strong mid-to-top-end airflow.
S300/S400 Compounds: Run the 177248 as the atmospheric charger with an S300 high-pressure unit for fast response and big airflow headroom.

FAQ
Will the 177248 bolt to my factory manifold?
No. It uses a T4 divided turbine inlet. Most OE light-duty diesels are T3 or single-scroll. You’ll need a matching T4 twin-scroll manifold and compatible downpipe.
Street-friendly as a single?
On stock fueling it will spool later than an S300, but shines on built fuel/air setups or as the atmospheric charger in compounds.
What are the outlet/inlet sizes?
Compressor side typically uses a 5.0" hose inlet and 4.21" V-band outlet; turbine outlet is the ~4" half-Marmon style used on S400s.
Oil feed/restrictor?
Journal-bearing S400SX3 units generally do not use a restrictor. Ensure clean supply and a free-draining -10AN to -12AN return. Verify oil pressure and follow best practices.
