Description
Replace the weak OEM head bolts on your 2011-2023 6.7L Powerstroke with the XDP X220 Series Head Stud Kit XD3018HS. Upgrading the factory head bolts is a must when you start adding horsepower and torque to your Super Duty.
The stock head bolts can struggle to handle the additional pressure in high-performance applications which leads to the cylinder head lifting. Upgrading to head studs helps to keep the cylinder heads locked down and avoid head gasket failures.
Constructed using an 8740 Chromoly Steel with an added proprietary element ensures these studs will not stretch like the stock bolts. The threads are rolled after heat-treating to deliver optimum fatigue strength. These studs are rated at 205,000+ psi yield strength and 225,000+ psi tensile strength to ensure a strong hold under higher combustion pressures.
In addition to the upgraded strength, replacing the head bolts with studs also allows you to obtain a more precise torque reading. A bolt gets twisted as it is tightened, so it's reacting to two different forces at the same time.
With a head stud the force gets applied to the vertical axis, resulting in a more even clamping force. Another benefit of studs is they can help offer easier engine assembly and proper alignment of the cylinder heads every time.
These are a must-have for high-performance applications and are reusable, unlike the OEM Torque-To-Yield (TTY) bolts which must be replaced after each use. Included with the studs are 12-point nuts and washers. Assembly lubricant sold separately.
Features:
- Includes Washers & 12-Point Nuts

Tech Tips:
XDP Thread Cleaning Chasers (Sold Separately):
Both the XD40125TC, and XD40128TC are a great add-on that will be critical during installation. Thread Cleaning Chasers are an excellent tool to have on-hand to ensure you have properly cleaned the threads in your engine block before the installation of any fasteners. Clean threads provide accurate torque readings and will help give you peace of mind during your engine build or head gasket repair.
XDP X-TRA Slick Engine & Fastener Assembly Lubricant (Sold Separately):
The use of XD541 is highly recommended during engine assembly. Apply XDP X-TRA Slick Lubricant to head studs, head bolts, main studs, main bolts, connecting rod bolts, and any other fasteners used during engine assembly.
Using a proper assembly lubricant during fastener installation reduces friction and torque pre-load scatter in the torquing sequence, while also helping to prevent thread galling and seizing.
Elevate the performance of your 2011-2023 Ford Super Duty with the XDP XD3018HS X220 Series Head Stud Kit designed specifically for the 6.7L Powerstroke engine. This premium upgrade replaces the factory head bolts, which may falter under increased horsepower and torque. By securing the cylinder heads effectively, this kit helps prevent potential issues like head gasket failures that can arise from the added pressure commonly experienced in high-performance applications.Crafted from high-strength 8740 Chromoly Steel, the X220 Series head studs feature a proprietary element that ensures durability and resistance to stretching—something standard head bolts can’t guarantee. With a yield strength exceeding 205,000 psi and a tensile strength surpassing 225,000 psi, these studs are built to withstand the high combustion pressures typical in robust engine builds.
An important advantage of head studs is their ability to provide more precise torque readings. Unlike bolts, which can twist and affect readings due to multiple forces, head studs align force vertically, ensuring consistent clamping pressure. This design not only facilitates easier engine assembly but also enhances the longevity and reliability of your engine setup.
Included in the kit are 12-point nuts and washers, making the installation process seamless and comprehensive. Notably, the reusable nature of these studs offers significant savings over traditional Torque-To-Yield (TTY) bolts that must be replaced after each use.
For an optimal installation experience, consider pairing the head stud kit with XDP Thread Cleaning Chasers and XDP X-TRA Slick Engine & Fastener Assembly Lubricant (both sold separately). These additional tools will help ensure clean threads for accurate torque readings and reduced friction during assembly, giving you confidence in the integrity of your engine build.
