VP44 INJECTION PUMPS

The vp44 injection pump that was installed on the 1998.5, 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002 Dodge Ram 5.9L 24v Cummins Turbo Diesel Engine is an electronic pump built by Bosch. In the early days this pump showed to be problematic and owners would get angry at having to pay large bills to the dealer for vp44 replacement. Over time we have learned that the pumps are very reliable as long as they are getting proper fuel flow. The vp44 injection pumps rely heavily on fuel flow to keep them cool and lubricated. If the fuel pressure drops below 10psi, the pump overheats and causes electronics to fail within the pump. The stock lift pumps that came on the 98.5-02 Cummins were proven through time to be the cause of premature vp44 injection pump failure. Even in stock form the lift pumps could hardly keep up with demand and they showed no signs of failure until it was too late. This unfortunately gave the vp44 a bad name because when they failed, the owners would just replace them not knowing that the lift pump was still bad and VP44 number 2 was going to soon be needed.

Technology has greatly improved in the vp44 world over the years and they are now lasting longer than ever. This is because we now know that to make them last, you need to get rid of the stock lift pump and replace them with a Fass Fuel System, Airdog fuel system or similar. Once that is done and a fuel pressure gauge is installed, the problem is gone!

High Performance VP44 Injection Pumps

As you may know CPP offers stock Standard output Vp44 (SO) injection pumps found on non high output 5.9L 24v Cummins and High output Vp44 (HO) injection pumps from the 01-02 6 speed trucks with the 245hp HO Cummins. We also offer the Hot Rod vp44 Injection Pumps for those wanting more horsepower than stock. These pumps offer 100hp more by using the SO vp44 plungers mixed with high output vp44 electronics. Doing so basically makes its horsepower by taking the larger plungers of the SO vp44 and the electronics from a HO vp44 which tells the plunger to stay open longer which translates to 100hp worth of fuel flow over stock.

We don't stop there! We also offer VP44 Competition pumps! Ask one of our sales associates to get you the info on those as they are for competition only.
