INTAKE MANIFOLD AND BOOST TUBES

The intake manifold and boost tubes on a 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, and 1993 Dodge Ram D250 and D350 trucks with 12v 5.9L High Performance diesel engines play a huge role in making horsepower. There is alot of confusion to how this works and what size tubes etc. should be used for what application. A great rule of thumb is to size your tubing and intake system for your exact application. For example John Doe 1 is running a 1993 Cummins with no modifications and he tows heavy, but wants to improve flow to lower his egts. He goes to CPP and places an order for 3.5" boost tubes and the biggest intake manifold he can find. He bolts it all on and he is very disappointed in the performance, because now his truck takes longer to spool up and seems egts are hotter. Well, that is because he still has the stock hX35 turbo charger on his truck and that lil turbo is trying to keep more intake volume up to full boost pressure. If the intake system is bigger, well it will take longer for his turbo to pump that much more volume out and hit full boost pressure.

Now, lets talk about John Doe 2 with his competition built 1993 Ram D250. He has Compound turbos and a Banks intake manifold as well as injectors and supporting mods. He orders the same boost tubes and intake as John Doe 1. He is very happy with his purchase because he has needed the added flow to support his Stage 2 race head and his P7100 conversion 1000hp setup. We hope this example helps and if there are any questions, our knowledgeable staff is always available to help. We carry intercoolers, Intercooler piping, tubing and Intake manifolds from Banks Power, BD, AFE, CSF, Mishimoto, and more!
